How is Barrow Street Nursery School connected to Greenwich House?

Q: How is Barrow Street Nursery School connected to Greenwich House?

A:

In 2006 Greenwich House assumed the operation of Barrow Street Nursery School and provides oversight and supervision. Barrow Street Nursery School continues to operate its finances independently of Greenwich House and the Senior Director of Barrow Street is responsible for all aspects regarding operations of the school.

The nursery school classrooms occupy the 2nd and 3rd floor of  27 Barrow Street, but we utilize space on the 6th floor (art, music/movement and gym), the 7th floor (tricycle track) and the roof (our playground). In addition to our school, 27 Barrow Street also houses Greenwich House's After-School, Judith C White Senior Center and Senior Health and Consultation Center as well as the Barrow Street Theater on the ground floor, an independently operated theater.

Greenwich House was founded in 1902 as a settlement house to help New York’s increasing immigrant population adjust to life in a new country. Greenwich House's mission today is to help individuals and families lead more fulfilling lives through valuable arts and education programming, social services and opportunities for civic involvement for New Yorkers of all ages and backgrounds. Barrow Street is just one of the many programs offered in social services, arts and education that provide thousands of New Yorkers with vital services and opportunities for enrichment year round.

Visit the Greenwich House home page for more information about various programs and opportunities for involvement.
