Chemical Dependency Program (CDP) Wins Community Partnership Award

Mutual of America Community Partnership AwardMutual of America recognized Greenwich House for its contributions to the community with its 2010 Community Partnership Award. The award, now in its 15th year, includes a national competition demonstrating each nominee’s community partnerships, the ability of the program to be replicated by others and its capacity to stimulate new approaches to addressing social issues.

CDP received this honor in recognition of its work partnering with an organization called “Getting Out and Staying Out” (GOSO). The non-profit organization GOSO is run through the Department of Education and focuses on reducing recidivism in jails through education. Part of what that education entails is substance abuse education for clients who need it. For this, GOSO turns to CDP with the knowledge that clients will receive the utmost level of support.

Gloria Gaev, Outreach Coordinator at CDP, began working with GOSO in 2008 after recognizing the potential they had to reach this targeted group of clients who needed a level of care most had previously not known. Of the GOSO clients they have worked with 66 percent have been able to remain sober and out of jail.

“Working at Greenwich House has taught me so much about second chances,” Gaev remarked. GOSO replicates that feeling for their clients.” By working together to provide an educated base for these clients, the collaborative effort has truly helped to build up the community and strengthen the ties that Greenwich House has to it.
