GHMS Hosts Ear to the Earth Festival

For three days, Greenwich House Music School will host the Electronic Music Foundation (EMF) for its 2010 Ear to the Earth Festival: "Water and the World."

All of the performances focus on forming an "understanding the current states of water in the world and our social and cultural attitudes towards water," and feature projects that will make us aware of water. According to the curator, he wants to "direct attention to environmental issues relating to water, among them drinkable water, melting ice, rising sea levels, polluted rivers, overfishing, storm intensity, and salinity, to name a few."  Read More»

Prolific Cello Instructor Retires from GHMS—Legacy Lives On

Sam ReinerSam Reiner, after 59 years at GHMS, gracefully retired from the cello faculty on July 23 at the age of 97. Now, thanks in part to contributions from Mr. Reiner’s friends and family, his legacy will live on through the Sam Reiner Scholarship Fund. The Scholarship will be awarded to promising students in their preparation for post-secondary studies in cello performance. Greenwich House welcomed illustrator, author and architect Matteo Pericoli as he sits down with publisher and author Daniel Menaker for a candid discussion of his inspiration and work, including his most recent The City Out My Window: 63 Views on New York (Simon & Schuster, 2009).
