Come Kirtan this Fall Equinox

Join the call at the Garden at Greenwich House Music School
Sunday, September 25, 5:30 - 7:30 pm    46 Barrow Street

Admission: $15. Buy tickets here

Celebrate the coming of the fall season by engaging in this outdoor Kirtan. Master kirtankar (or person leading the kirtan) Anjula Prasad will engage the audience with her beautiful voice in melodious repetition of Hindu mantras (or sounds and syllables considered capable of creating spiritual transformation), as we progressively attune our minds with our spirits during this collective sonic experience.

The music school has been the home of many artistic luminaries, including the avant-garde composer John Cage, whose approach to musical harmony reflected his keen interest in Zen Buddhism and Hindu philosophy, experimenting with the power of sound itself for what it could tell us about life. With the 100th anniversary of his birth in 2012, this event is also an acknowledgment of his legacy.

People of all backgrounds and religious beliefs are welcome.

A Fall Equinox Kirtan with Anjula Prasad is a co-production with the Asian American Arts Alliance.
