North River Music: Hudson Quartet

Greenwich House Arts announces concert three of North River Music’s 24th season featuring the Hudson Quartet. On Thursday, March 11 at 8pm, string quartet members Caroline Shaw, Sage Cole, Luke Cissell, and Robert Jacobs, and, special guest soprano Abigail Haynes Lennox present three world premières for combinations of string quartet and voice.

The evening’s program is set to include two premières for string quartet: Caroline Shaw’s Punctum, a piece inspired by Roland Barthes’ Camera Lucida and Luke Cissell’s Poor Lazarus, a liminal suite evocative of bluegrass, old-time fiddling, gospel and folk music from the composer’s native Kentucky and southern Indiana. The third première, entitled By and By, is a collection of new works by Caroline Shaw for string quartet and soprano which uses texts from traditional bluegrass and gospel songs, including Fifty Miles of Elbow Room, and I’ll Fly Away.

Admission is payable at the door from 7:30pm and costs $15 general, $10 for students and seniors. This performance will be held at Renee Weiler Concert Hall
