The Teabowl with Bonnie Kemske

March 2, 2018
3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Register

En route to NCECA, ceramicist, writer and curator, Dr. Bonnie Kemske will visit Greenwich House Pottery to give a presentation on the teabowl and discuss her most recent publication, The Teabowl: East & West. She will introduce the chawan and explore why it is iconic both in Japan and in the West.

Bring your favorite teabowl to the table! In addition to discussing the teabowl through an art historical lens, Dr. Kemske will lead a discussion focusing on the chawans that audience members bring in.

The Teabowl: East & West is told from Dr. Kemske’s personal perspective as an artist and tea ceremony student. In it she considers the context of the teabowl from its history to its contemporary aesthetic and its current use in political, social and personal commentary. Books will be available for purchase at the end of the talk.

This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. Please register here to RSVP.
