Electronic Meditations on Freedom, Justice and Compassion. Also, We Make Noise - The [MazzMuse] Breakdown explores and expounds on the musical explorations of Mazz's early days, spent musing in the woodshed with her electric violin, experimental vocals and looper. Added to that roux are BLVK SamuRai's expertise as beatmaker/producer; James Shipp's extraordinary harmonic and sweetly musical mind, expressed through several instruments; and tersely pointed lyrics - these three artists come together to break it down for you with their Modern Day Protest Songs.

Critically acclaimed as one of America's most talented and versatile performers today, Violin/Vox/Freestyle Composition artist Mazz Swift has engaged audiences all over the world with the signature weaving of song, melody and improvisation that she calls MazzMuse. A self-described "recovering Christian", queer woman of color who has explored and expressed freely her love of classical music, while nurturing a love of rock, metal, punk, pop and electronica, Mazz's music continues to come into its own as a sonic contradiction. It is the freedom of rock and the depth of soul, delivered with a brand of precision her classical sensibility brings.

James Shipp is a vibraphonist, percussionist, composer, and bandleader who has been living and working in New York for the past 13 years. Shipp plays a wide variety of instruments and styles, most of which are based in or around jazz, which he refers to as the "big tent" in the international music world. In his career James has played jazz both new and old, Caribbean music, Brazilian music, "third-stream" chamber music, mostly improvised music, rock, funk, r&b, and with many bands that cross and blend different genres and styles.

Charles "BLVK SamuRai" Burchell is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, educator, and diplomat from New Orleans, LA. He has studied at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, the New England Conservatory (B.M. '12) and most recently completed the Masters of Arts in Education program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (Ed. M '13). Burchell has recorded and produced albums with Wes "Warmdaddy" Anderson, Delfayo Marsalis, Ran Blake, Ciel Rouge, his band The Love Experiment, and has performed and given master classes at various music festivals around the world. Burchell also works as a cultural diplomat with the Next Level Program and is currently a teaching artist for Carnegie Hall's Digital Music Production Workshop and Musical Connections Program in which he works with court involved youth and students from various boroughs throughout New York City. Burchell continues to perform regularly around the U.S. and internationally as a DJ, drummer and bandleader.

Uncharted is a concert series featuring high-profile local artists debuting first-time performances of new work or new collaborations. The Uncharted concert season covers a broad selection of performative genres, from jazz to traditional folk, electronic to classical, cabaret to tap dance. Performances for Uncharted take place every Thursday from March 24 to May 12.

"The Uncharted series was founded as a safe space for artists to take risks," says series curator Jennie Wasserman, formerly of SFJAZZ, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Joe's Pub and Carnegie Hall. "Last season's collection of sold-out concerts proved that audiences are always excited to hear something new from their favorite performers. That success has emboldened us to vary our lineup even further. Greenwich Village is one of America's oldest and most successful social melting pots; reflecting the neighborhood's artistic excellence and diversity is one of the goals of our programming."
