Young Artist Series: Yen Yu Chen

Yen Yu (Jenny) Chen, was the Second Prize Winner of the Fifth New York International Piano Competition, a biennial event presented under the auspices of The Stecher and Horowitz Foundation. In addition to her cash award, she appears in concert on the Foundation's Young Artists Series, a program of concerts throughout New York, Connecticut, and Washington D.C.

Ms. Chen won First Prize in a number of national and international piano competitions, including the Kawai Piano Competition, the Baroque Competition, the Steinbach Music Competition, the Mandarin Chinese Daily Piano Competition, the Vienna National Piano Competition, the Yamaha Piano Competition, the Seidof & Sons Piano Competition, the Victory Cup Competition, and American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition.

As the First Prize winner of the Albert Greenfield Competition in 2007, Ms. Chen appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra. In 2010 she received the Grand Prize in the Rising Stars Concerto Competition and performed with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. The same year, she was again selected to appear with the Philadelphia Orchestra, performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No.5 in D major at the Kimmel Center. Winner of a silver medal at the twelfth Eastman International Piano Competition, she also performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.

Born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1994, Ms. Chen began piano studies at the age of six. Exhibiting an exceptional musical talent, she traveled to Austria where she studied and performed in Graz. At the age of 10, she was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a student of Eleanor Sokoloff. In 2012, Curtis recognized her for giving one of the most outstanding student performances of the year, one of the school’s highest artistic honors. She is currently pursuing her Master's Degree at Yale, where she studies with Robert Blocker.
