All courses at Greenwich House Pottery are hands-on, encouraging students to learn new skills or refining techniques as a means to conceive, construct and realize ideas and share them with others. Individual assistance is provided in each class, helping students develop at their own pace within a focused format or on individually determined projects.
In our studios at 16 Jones Street we offer 35 adult classes, children’s after-school classes, a parent and child class, year-round Master Workshops, a summer clay and mixed media camp for children called Project Arts, and an intensive Summer wheel-throwing class for teens. Day and evening classes are scheduled Monday through Saturday.
Open studio is an exclusive perk for currently enrolled students to allow for practice time outside of class. Open studio access is determined by which day of the week your class meets. Click here to view the schedule of available days and times listed by class day.
For the summer term, open studio time for enrolled students is available Monday–Thursday 2:00–9:45 pm.
Our studios are equipped with 2 hand-building classrooms, 2 throwing classrooms, 28 wheels, 2 gas kilns, 4 electric kilns, two slab rollers, clay mixer, three pug mills, two extruders, and a spray booth. We offer 5 clay bodies: white stoneware, throwing stoneware, sculpture stoneware, red earthenware, and we sell porcelain for $20 per 25-pounds. We have a large selection of glazes (20 high temperature and 17 low temperature), slips and washes, and offer both high and low temperature firing (cone 04, cone 2, & cone 10).
