Studio Reminders
A message from your fellow potters

Classroom storage space is beginning to become an issue. The class shelves are amply sufficient for storage of class work for all members of each class, but when they become cluttered with personal items space gets limited. Please review the studio policy on personal item storage. Class shelves should only be used for storing work in progress. A failure to abide by studio policy could result in your items being discarded.
  • Store all your personal items in your locker and put your studio clothes and shoes in the designated space in the basement.
  • Do not store any items on top of or under lockers or anywhere else in the studio.
  • Class and bisque shelves should be used for work in progress.
  • Items like porcelain, terra sig, mason stains and tools should be stored in your locker.
  • If you have too many items edit what you store at the studio and bring in only what you will need for the day.
  • Overflow shelves are to be shared by all students.
  • Bring home finished work.

Special Information for Students Registered in a Six-Week Class
Six week classes, except for Monday, this is your last class!

Class evaluations – please take a few minutes to fill out our class evaluation. It helps us to determine how well we are doing. Your feedback is valuable to us.

Continuing Students: If you plan on continuing in the next six week session, register now because classes are filling up!

Non-returning Students:
• If you are not planning on returning, please make sure to finish all work in progress, get work measured for firing and put it on the shelves in the kiln room.
• By the end of your last class, clear off all items from your class shelf and empty your locker and take home all personal items. Please let a liaison know when you have emptied your locker.

Dry Materials
Anyone wishing to pursue a direction that requires dry materials (such as mason stains for coloring porcelain) will need to purchase those. Students do not have access to the studio chem room. We strongly recommend using slips and washes that are provided by the studio. Dry sanding procedures must be followed when using any dry material (use a dust mask and work in the spray booth only).

Minimize Dust
As a reminder clay dust is a health hazard. Please make every effort to minimize clay dust when working in the studio. Always use a clean wet sponge to clean your work space, never brush or scrap dry clay. Cleaning as you work will to help to reduce dust.

Special Information for Students Registered in a Six-Week Class
Six week classes, except Mondays, have just one more meeting after this week’s class.

Studio Reminders
Test Tile Procedures

GHP has pre-made test tiles for student use. They located under the spray booth – in all clay bodies. Present test tiles with firing slip at measuring time, nominal fee for firing studio test tiles is $0.25. All other tests must be measured and paid for. Minimum firing fees apply.

Glazeware
The comradery of sharing refreshments during class is welcome at the Pottery; however, please do not borrow anyone else’s finished work from the glaze shelf for your potluck meals. This is how work ends up “missing”. Bottom-line, you should not touch anyone else’s work.

Please pick up your glaze work as soon as it’s fired and unloaded. This will prevent unnecessary breakage and keep the glaze shelves from getting overcrowded (less stacking = less breakage = easier to find your work).
