Honorees

Thank you to our wonderful 2013 Arts Gala Honorees

German Diez
Chairman of the piano department at Greenwich House Music School since 1969, German first came to the United States from La Habana, Cuba, upon winning the National Music Award Competition in 1945. German began his tenure at the Music School in 1950 and has taught over 1,500 students. His influence can  be seen in every aspect of the school's operations, including the way it gauges student progress through student recitals and end of the year concerts. German elevated the school's stature when he established the Piano Master Class Series, over twenty years ago, which has featured renowned pianists, such as Joseph Bloch, Sam Sanders, Seymour Bernstein, David Dubal, Jeffrey Swann and Sara Davis Buechner. His insightfulness, dedication and passion for music and the close-knit community can be measured both in quantity and quality; his presence at Greenwich House is greatly cherished.

David Gibson
"Pottery Dave" as he is affectionately known, is a beloved member of the Greenwich House Pottery, starting his career at GHP as Resident Artist in 2005. David is one of Pottery's most engaged faculty members, with a generous spirit that reaches the young and old, students and staff alike. In addition to his formal instruction at the Pottery School, David teaches an introductory class at the Greenwich House's Barrow Street Nursery School, winning the hearts of the toddlers and their parents. David has made a major impact on Greenwich House in more ways than can be counted-- always providing support and going the extra mile for his students. He is a Gentleman and a Scholar.

Eli Koenig
After taking the reins of the Theater Desk at the Judith C. White Senior Center 25 years ago, Eli Koenig has built a database with hundreds of theater, dance and music contacts, providing seniors with affordable performance tickets to some of New York's most reputable productions. His spirit and love of live performances inspires others at the center to embrace the city's valuable assets. Not only has Eli established diverse and extensive relationships that have nourished the community, he has also generated thousands of dollars in donations supporting Greenwich House Senior Center Programs and the theater companies that graciously contribute to Greenwich House.
