Taste of Greenwich House Off Season

Thank you to everyone who made the 14th Annual Taste of Greenwich House a resounding success. Information on the 15th Annual Taste will be posted this winter. In the meantime, check out photos from past Tastes. And don't forget, Taste, was just that, a Taste. We encourage you to visit some of the 30 plus restaurants to sample their full menus.

Taste of Greenwich House is a premier tasting event that brings more than 30 of New York’s most innovative restaurants, including staples like Annisa, Swine, the little owl, dell’anima, Market Table, and Left Bank, as well as new eateries such as Commerce Sweet Shop, VSpot, and Ox Cart Tavern, in support of Greenwich House’s 10 social service and arts education programs. In addition to more than thirty tasting stations the event features a silent auction with foodie-inspired bid lots including private wine and cheese tastings, exclusive cooking classes, special dining experiences and tickets to theater, dance, TV and sporting events. Proceeds from the event go directly to Greenwich House’s diverse programming including treatment for victims of child abuse, medical care for home-bound seniors, after-school programs for urban youth, senior wellness programs, free arts exhibitions and community concerts.

Former executive chef and owner of Commerce, Harold Moore has climbed the elite New York City restaurant ladder at a pace that indicates undeniable tenacity and an unyielding passion for the business of food. Moore abandoned his traditional liberal arts education in favor of the Culinary Institute of America, but not without a few sideways glances from his conventional parents. Still he persevered, knowing that there was something to this cooking thing that he needed to explore.

Moore’s approach to food is characterized by humility and respect for his patrons. He presents an accessible menu with no mysteries or obscurities. But that is not to say that complexity and technique are not evidenced in his cooking. He aspires to “cook what people want to eat.” When asked how he knows what that is, he offers a multi-tiered answer: “I think of my parents, who are straightforward and unpretentious. Then I think of everything I have learned from great chefs like Daniel. Then, of course, I think of the sophisticated New York audience.”
