Me and My Special Grownup

Me and My Special Grown Up classes are for children ages 15 - 30 months and a parent or caregiver. Research shows that emotional security is the true foundation of learning.  This class stimulates children’s social, physical and cognitive development while safeguarding that security. A familiar caregiver provides a reassuring presence as children engage in activities.

Our philosophy believes early socialization helps children learn through exploration and play in a group setting. Barrow Street teachers create and support environments that enrich and extend children's play. Our staff specializes in knowing when to intervene with questions, suggestions and challenges.

Play, music and art experiences create tactile opportunities for exploration and independence that are integral to toddlers.Encouraging self-discovery through a relaxed and nurturing environment, our classes focus on the process of learning rather than the product. Through art, story time, snack, gross motor and song time, children develop positive techniques for guidance and discipline. The classrooms are set up so that young children can be active participants in their discoveries with water, textures, mirrors, shakers, grabbing, reaching, kicking and dumping.

Classes take place in our classrooms, art room, music room, gym and on our rooftop playground. We do messy work, so please dress your child for play and bring a change of clothes. All questions regarding these classes can be directed to mmsg@greenwichhouse.org.
