Beatriz Roman

Beatriz Roman is a pianist specializing in 20th and 21st century music. She has concertized extensively in Brazil, Europe and the United States, and performed many premieres by composers such as John Cage, Henri Pousseur, and Gilberto Mendes.

She performed in the festival Sonidos de las Americas: Brasil organized by the American Composers Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. She collaborated with Sorrel Hays for projects at WDR (German Radio Cologne) and with Tania León for the 4th Münchener Biennale.

Besides performing as a soloist in recitals, with orchestras and with chamber groups, Beatriz Roman has also given Master Classes and Courses in Contemporary Music at many international festivals (Cursos Latino-Americanos de Música Contemporânea, Festival de Inverno de Diamantina, Curso Internacional de Férias Pró-Arte) and Universities (Universidade de São Paulo, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Université Catholique de Louvain - Belgium, and University of California in Santa Barbara).

Ms. Roman holds a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the Graduate Center CUNY and her doctoral dissertation was on the piano music of John Cage. She has also studied in Germany with Professor Aloys Kontarsky, under a grant from Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD).  She attended contemporary music courses by Vinko Gobokar, Peter Eötvös and in Paris, seminars by Pierre Boulez.  She is the recipient of grants from many foundations including Fulbright, FAPESP and CNPq.
