Christopher Petz

Chris on his teaching style:

“I tailor my teaching to the students’ musical needs and interests, focusing on the genre of music that they are interested in. I cover all the important aspects of music study: rhythm, harmony, and melody. I teach these fundamental musical concepts by finding repertoire suitable for the student’s level of ability, taking into consideration what music they like. I love to have them ask questions about what they encounter in a piece of music. What is the time feel? What key is the melody in? How is the guitarist getting that chord? How can I write a song? Answers to these questions can be found in music from all round world, and sometimes through the students own compositions. Match the student to the proper tune, explain the fundamental concepts and their musical understanding will blossom.”
