Deanna Bau

Deanna on her teaching style:

“In my twenty some years on the Greenwich House Piano Faculty, teaching all ages and levels, some general thoughts: (1) pianists need to have a solid technique. I modify my training depending on the needs of the students, some are given just the minimum and some are given a strenuous routine of scales, and various methods (i.e., Pischna, Hanon, etc.) (2) I emphasize musicianship by encouraging students to perform as often as possible-this brings their playing to the highest level, developing musicianship, and confidence in themselves. (3) Lessons are expected to be well prepared as assigned in their lesson books. Teaching is tailored to the individual: their tastes, abilities, amount of time able to devote, etc
