Julie Terestman 2017 Greenwich House Pottery

Julie Terestman is a studio potter born and raised in NYC. Her studio is located in Jersey City, where she has been working for the last 28 years. She received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art (1989) and BFA from Program in Artisanry (1983). She has taught at Marymount College and the 92nd St.Y, and now teaches at the West Side Y, Kingsborough Community College and at Greenwich House Pottery since 1992.

She has exhibited in the U.S. and abroad and is in the permanent collection of the Mint Museum of Art. She has won the NJ State Council of the Arts Fellowship Award and over the years her work has been carried in a variety of NYC and area stores featuring distinctive handmade objects- Portantina, Pritam & Eames, Robert Homma & William Lipton, Mix, and Florisity.

Terestman’s work is currently represented by Sara Japanese Pottery in NYC. She has concurrently been studying and practicing Zen Buddhism for over 25 years, which she now also teaches. Her longtime meditation practice influences her teaching the subtle development of ceramic skills, seeing them also as a means to help quiet and ground the mind.
