Julie Terestman

Julie Terestman is a ceramic artist born and raised in NYC. She received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art (1989) and BFA from Program in Artisanry (1983). She now teaches at the West Side YMCA, Kingsborough Community College and at Greenwich House Pottery since 1992. Her studio is located in Jersey City, where she has been working for many years.

She has exhibited in the U.S. and abroad and is in the permanent collection of the Mint Museum of Art. She has won the NJ State Council of the Arts Fellowship Award and over the years her work has been carried in a variety of NYC and regional stores featuring distinctive handmade objects. Her work has always been concerned with bringing qualities of intimacy and contemplation into objects for the home.

Terestman’s work is currently represented by Sara Japanese Pottery in NYC. A longtime meditation practice informs her teaching the subtle development of ceramic skills, seeing them also as contemplative practice.
