Rachel Black, Director, is a native of Mississippi, and joined the Music School in June 2013. She has begun several new initiatives such as Suzuki Violin, the Global Groove Youth Orchestra, outreach programs with PS 89, PS 41 and PS 3, a joint music therapy program with Greenwich House's Children’s Safety Project and a new fundraiser for the scholarship fund, Play it Forward. She is the executive producer of Uncharted, a community concert series for GHMS, which features local artists premiering new work or new collaborations, with all ticket proceeds going directly to back to the artists. 

Before joining the Greenwich House Music School as Director, Rachel was General Manager at Central Park SummerStage, New York City's largest free performing arts festival. She expanded the growth in managed rental events, oversaw a major capital purchase to improve the festival’s audio capabilities, started a new usher program and created a vastly improved VIP/Member experience. Rachel also curated the festival's word and comedy programs, and created a new speaker series, Forewords.  

Rachel is a classically trained actor and a graduate of the American Conservatory Theater’s MFA program. She has worked in film, television and theater. Selective film credits include Michael Clayton, Inside Man, The Bourne Legacy, Men in Black 3, Quid Pro Quo, (Sundance Film Festival 08), and the television shows The Michael Showalter Showalter, Ed, Law and Order, All My Children, and The Guiding Light. Selective New York City theatrical credits include David Mamet’s The Voysey Inheritance (Atlantic Theater, Off-Broadway), Eve Ensler’s Necessary Targets (Off-Broadway), ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore (Friendly Fire), The Tempest (McCarter Theatre), Silence (American premiere-Magic Theatre) and Goodnight Children Everywhere (American Conservatory Theater). She is a member of SAG-AFTRA and Actor’s Equity.
