This hands-on interactive workshop will focus on wheel-thrown forms and carving and relief techniques.
Along with wheel throwing demonstrations showing traditional Egyptian forms, Said will discuss and demonstrate the use of geometry in Islamic design as the basis for both traditional Islamic ware and his own sculptural ceramic work. He will walk through the steps from drawing on paper to translating designs onto clay. Said will demonstrate how even similar underlying geometric structures can become a variety of different patterns in both relief and carving techniques.
Summer Master Series Workshops are intermediate level and run from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. daily; firing and materials are included in the cost of tuition. Participants may stay and work in the studio until 10:00 p.m. during the workshop.
