Workshop Details
Join this three-day workshop in which you will learn to model a figurative head alongside Lindsay Pichaske. Focusing on the techniques used to create Souvenir, the lion’s head exhibited in her solo exhibition in GHP’s Jane Hartsook Gallery in 2019, Lindsay will teach the handbuilding skills and detail-work that goes into rendering animals and humans in clay. As a participant, you will sculpt a head and facial features in fine detail. On test tiles, you will learn several different finishing methods such as working with colored porcelain to create a fur-like appearance, adding feathers, hair, fabric and other media to create life-like details. You can expect to complete a human or animal head by the end of this workshop and have the skills to apply a number of different finishes to it once it is bisqued following the workshop. Alternately, you may leave with your piece in the greenware state to continue working wet in your studio after the workshop ends.

Our Summer Workshops take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The workshop hours are 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with a one hour lunch break. Often workshop participants will purchase a take-out lunch and dine together in the classroom or a nearby park. There are many local restaurants and eateries close by where you can find fast and delicious food, but feel free to bring a bag lunch if you prefer. Each day the studio will remain open until 10:00 p.m. so that you may continue to work on projects started.

A bisque firing of works made during the workshop is included in your tuition. It normally takes approximately two weeks for the firing before it will be ready to be picked-up. Pick-up dates will be announced during the workshop.
