Chelsea Hanawalt

Chelsea is an applied theatre practitioner and early childhood educator in New York City. She is one of the founders of The Journey Theatre Project. She has over 10 years experience teaching students ages 2-5. She has worked with pre-k, elementary and middle school age groups throughout the city. Chelsea has experience in Reggio Emilia, Montessori, and Waldorf pedagogies. She has a 25 hour child’s yoga teaching training from Hosh Yoga and a 30 hour child’s music and yoga training from Yo Re Mi. Chelsea has developed project based curriculums from student’s inquiries exploring such topics as environmentalism, the history of Indigenous Peoples and Photography with her students. Chelsea has worked on anti-bias/anti-racist curriculum and projects that reflect the lived experiences of the students.  Chelsea received her MA in Applied Theatre at CUNY SPS.  She has experience in co-intentional directing, theatre in education, process dramas, and playbuilding. Chelsea enjoys sharing her love of nature, yoga, mindfulness and breathwork with her students. She plays the guitar and ukulele and loves to sing! Chelsea strives to provide fun and interactive lessons to instill a lifetime love of learning with the communities she works with.
