Josh Schutz (b. La Crosse, WI) is a figurative ceramic sculptor and potter. He received his BA in Art History and MA in Ceramics from Minnesota State University. Schutz then moved to Alfred, NY in 2018 to pursue his MFA at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. Schutz currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He has exhibited in museums nationally as well as taught numerous workshops and classes at community art centers in Minnesota and New York. Schutz’s work involves the figure as self-portrait connecting art history (the past) with technology (the future.) His work maps a life at the wheel, rolling and building with coils, 3-D printing clay, and making molds. These processes are often blended into a singular work.
