Kiani Kodama

Pronouns: she/her

Kiani was born in Seattle, WA though currently works and lives in Brooklyn, NY. She is a recent graduate from The Cooper Union School of Art and primarily focuses on drawing and sculpture.

The majority of her work delves within personal and historical archives, investigating questions of language, loyalty, loss, and celebration. Kiani “drowns” the surfaces of her drawings and collages in tar-like sludge, using oil pastel, chalk, or graphite. Even as the applied materials are removed through scratching or erasing, evidence of a previous submersion holds a presence.

Kiani is excited to further extend her practice towards ceramic sculptures at Greenwich House Pottery.
