Artist Residency Program

Greenwich House Pottery Artist Residency - Ghada Amer

We are pleased to offer the Greenwich House Pottery Residency, a program designed to support artists’ projects. Our goal is to open up our facility to give experienced ceramic artists the means to create a project they might not be able to carry out elsewhere and to give artists who are not well-versed in ceramics the opportunity to use our resources to develop a body of work in this medium. Greenwich House Pottery (GHP) invites artists, designers, and architects to apply. We aim to offer support and encouragement to expand the field of contemporary ceramics.

We encourage applications from artists representing the widest possible range of perspectives and demographics, and welcomes artists engaging in the broadest spectrum of artistic practice and investigation. To that end, both emerging as well as established artists are invited to apply. Applicants who are in a degree program as of the date of application are ineligible for the program.

Please read the full description and application guidelines for the GHP Residency Program here. The deadline to apply for a 2024 residency is September 15, 2023.

Applications must be submitted through SlideRoom. Please read through and follow the application guidelines listed here.

Internship Program

The Internship Program offers college and graduate students a short-term work experience in the Pottery’s Greenwich Village studio.  Through hands-on experience, interns are exposed to the day-to-day activities of a thriving community arts organization, while given the opportunity to explore their own work in a studio environment.  Interns assist with a variety of special projects ranging in scope from studio-oriented tasks, including kiln firing and mixing clay, to facility repairs such as painting, to administrative projects.  Interns have access to the studio during open studio time, and access to all stocked materials, as well as free firings.  Interns work directly with the Studio Manager or administrative staff, depending upon the internship requested.

Our facilities include professional equipment and materials, including 1 gas kiln, 5 electric kilns, 2 slab rollers, 2 clay mixers, 1 clay extruders, 5 clay bodies, and an extensive inventory of glazes and chemicals.

EXPECTATIONS:

Interns will have access to the studio during open studio time, and access to all stocked materials, as well as free firings, and shelf storage in exchange for an 8 hour shift per week for 3 months, with the option for renewal.

We are able to offer credit exchange for academic programs.

 ELIGIBILITY:

The Internship Program is open to all United States residents over 18 who are enrolled in part-time or full-time academic study. Applicants should demonstrate motivation in their work, an ability to work well in a group environment, and a strong desire to expand their knowledge of the ceramic medium. Some studio experience is strongly preferred for those seeking internships in the studio.

DURATION:

Internships last for 3 months, with the option for renewal on a case by case basis.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

To apply, email the following material in ONE PDF FILE no larger than 5MB to studio manager Ryan Rennie at rrennie@greenwichhouse.org:
