Student Enrichment Program

Register for December below!

We know this is a tough time for parents and families, as our city and communities continue to adjust to evolving conditions around the COVID-19 crisis. But you’re not in it alone!

In order to help families navigate their own needs and decisions around new learning models, Greenwich House Youth Community Center launched a new initiative this fall, the Student Enrichment Program.

The aim is to build off our years of experience providing safe and engaging youth development programming to provide students with education, enrichment and social supports in small group settings during school-day hours.

Who’s It For:

Students in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade.

How It Works:

The Student Enrichment Program meets Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and is based out of the GH Youth Community Center located on the 5th floor of 27 Barrow Street. The space currently has capacity for up to 24 students each day, and we are exploring additional onsite spaces to appropriately expand capacity as required.

Each day would include Study Hall and remote learning time, additional enrichment activities and time for recreation and socialization.

Students will be organized into pods of 6-10 children by age and grade level. Each pod will be assigned a room. Pods of over 8 students will have an instructor and assistant instructor to help with remote learning assignments. Smaller pods will have 1 or 2 instructors present depending on age. Each pod will stay together throughout the course of the day.

Students and families will be responsible for providing required school lessons and assignments, as well as tablets or laptops for each student each day. We hope to have access to a few computers (regularly disinfected) that will be available, if a child is in need of a computer.

Daily Schedule

Each pod will follow the set schedule each day. Along with remote learning assistance, each day will include time for independent study, lunch, recess, and a rotating schedule of enrichment activities such as painting, drawing, science, sewing and physical education. Each pod will also have at least one hour of active time outdoors, weather permitting.

A typical day runs as follows:

8:15 a.m. – 8:45 a.m.: Drop off (Daily temperature checks and health screenings required for all children)

9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.: Remote learning support and homework help

12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.: Lunch

1:00 p.m-2:00 p.m.: Recess in the gym, rooftop playground or at a local park

2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Enrichment class

3:00 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.: Dismissal for children not participating in After-School Programming

Safety First

All programming at the Greenwich House Youth Community Center follows COVID-19 safety protocols and guidelines that we originally honed during our successful Summer Arts Camp season. Hear from some of the parents of campers about their experience:

“I appreciate all the thought and effort that went into providing camp for the children. Greenwich House has been so transparent about everything from After School to camp—demonstrating its wonderful commitment to the community.”

I was extremely impressed with how you ran a fun, successful camp during these hard times. I tell all my friends about the things you did, and how you can be a model for the schools. ”

I especially appreciated that although the protocols for the pandemic were in place, there wasn’t an attitude of fear or anxiety. Instead it was very joyful, and I am so grateful to the entire staff.”

“I was supremely impressed with how the camp operated all summer. I’m also a scientist who studies COVID-19 and thought that you really provided a great model for how this could be extended safely in the public school system. My kids both enjoyed it and we plan to continue for the fall.”

Registration

Understanding the fluid nature of present circumstances, flexibility is a top priority for registration. Parents have the option to register for 2 days a week, 3 days a week, or a full week and can rotate frequency each week. For the month of September, only weekly registrations are available. Moving forward, we hope to be able to provide a monthly option as well. When registering, parents will need to specify the exact days their child will be coming for each week selected. Financial assistance is available for families on a case-by-case need basis. Please contact Omar Amores at oamores@greenwichhouse.org to discuss.

Rates are as follows:

2 Days a Week:  $250

3 Days a Week: $350
